Christmas- why bother?

Christmas..Why Bother?

Tis the season to be jolly, are you? Why bother with such a stress filled time of year? There is too much stress trying to get just the right gift, please your family, put on a facade to show that you get along, etc.

As the Grinch described Christmas

"The Grinch hated Christmas, the whole Christmas season.
Oh, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason....
'One thing I can't stand is the noise, noise, noise, noise!'"

Is Christmas just noise to you?

I encourage you to take a new perspective, a perspective not about you or even about others, but one that is the origin of Christmas: The Christ Mas (Latin origin for the death and resurrection of Christ portrayed in the last supper.)

Chris Tomlin's song Everlasting God helps us see the true meaning of Christmas

"Everlasting God"

"Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our Strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary

You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles"

Stop, reflect on these words. What do they mean?

They are clearly not about us, or about gift giving or about holiday lights or a good warm fuzzy feeling.

At one time Christmas was considered a holy time, but when society commercializes and denigrates the true meaning it truly does become "meaningless." Thus a meaningless holiday does cause stress, anxiety, and pain in many. Activity without true meaning is futile.

Faith

Romans 8:31-39

"What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died - more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

In Christmas we celebrate the Christ Mas. Rejoice this season for, in Christ, nothing can separate you from God's love.

Are you waiting on God? Have you not seen or experienced Him? He has appeared. If you don't see him it means that you are not asking to see Him as He really is. All you have to do is ask to see Him, not on your terms, but on His. He will make himself known.
